Many were laughing last year when they heard about the imposed penalty for breaking the law on smoking at eateries, thinking that it would never happen...and for some, they dared to challenge the law and go away with it.
This year, these people won't be laughing anymore.
A grand slam total of RM170,000 have been collected so far by the Govt, for those who think that they're above the law.
6,119 food premises have been inspected since the start of the year, with as many as 2,087 Health Ministry enforcement personnel on the move to continue "collecting".
So far, 605 fines were issued out, amounting to RM144,450.00!
Yes, this is inclusive of 34 minors too.
Another RM25,750.00 was collected from the 103 fines that were issued out to premises owners -- 79 notices for failing to display the "no-smoking" sign and 24 notices for offering items which facilitated smoking.
Surely many smokers are hating on the Health Ministry enforcement personnel, but in truth, you guys should be hating yourselves for not following a simple instruction stepping 3m away (10 steps) to grab a quick puff.
No one said that you guys can't smoke, but surely you could get up and take a few steps away and save yourself a whole lotta money -- you're just making the Govt richer, so why would you wanna do it?
Do yourself a favour guys and let's not keep unnecessarily making these people richer.
Imagine the amount of cig boxes you could buy with all that "saman penalty".
It's just 3m guys...walk off your nasi lemak and teh o ais.
