To all aspiring architects and interior designers, time to unleash your talent to the world!

Nippon Paint is bringing their Asia Young Designer Awards (AYDA) Competition back and this time, their efforts have been recognized by the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2020 (AREA) in the ‘Social Empowerment’ category.

Since its inception in 2008, AYDA has nurtured over 8,000 design and architecture talents across 15 geographical locations: Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Thailand and Vietnam.

AYDA was established for the purpose of inspire young designers to understand the importance of providing practical and socially-conscious design solutions which are relevant to the needs of today’s society.

This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Nippon Paint is centering innovation as the theme of its competition. All activities will fully take place online. Participants have the chance to join their AYDA Xchange learning platform consists of several industry veterans for coaching and mentorship opportunities. They are Ar. Jabeen Zacharias, Founder of Jabeen Zacharias Architects; Mr Lai Siew Hong, Chief Executive Designer & Founder of Blu Water Studio and Mr Michael Pizarro, Principal Interior Designer of Michael Pizarro Interior Design. These key leaders will also be the judges for the competition.

Winners of this competition get to embark on a 6-week all expense paid Design Discovery Programme at Harvard Graduate School of Design in Boston, USA.

Here are the details of the competition:

Nippon Paint Asia Young Designer Awards 2020

Theme: 'Forward: Human- Centred Design'

Design approach: Affordable, clean energy, sustainable cities, climate action, environmental friendly

2 categories: Architecture and Interior Design

*Top 12 will be selected for each category and make their final presentation in December. Gold winner will enter regional level at Asia Young Designer Summit 2020/21 in Vietnam 2021. Location may be subject to changes due to Covid-19*

Who can join: All existing Architecture students (Year 3 and onwards) and Interior Design students (Diploma Year 2 and onwards)
