On Wednesday, 11th November, Laguna Redang Island Resort called out on a widely known Facebook Live streamer who shared fake news to his viewers for selling unauthorized vacation packages at their hotel. The resort announced on their Facebook that the live streamer was not at all given approval by the resort to offer the public any holiday packages.

The live streamer, who is actually a businessman told his viewers that the resort was offering 3 Days 2 nights package with no expiration date. On top of that, the package also includes Malaysian Airlines Flight Tickets to Pulau Redang and seven meals on the island. All of these, for only Rm399 altogether.

During the live stream session, which happened on 11.11 Sales Day, he also added that the resort provides full flexibility to the traveller for their name and departure dates can be changed. Other than that, he also said that travellers will be entitiled to join a lucky draw where two winners will be picked to win an exclusive brand new Proton X50 SUV each.

It is found that over 8,000 packages were sold within a span of two hours. This means that the businessman had earned over Rm3.2 Million in just a day.

Laguna Redang Island Resort announced that they have received Rm100,000 from an unknown source to their bank account. From this, they have agreed to transfer back to every sender’s account as refund as this whole package was a scam. They have also taken action to report this incident to the police and adviced that victims from this fraud issue should do the same.

The businessman since then, did a new Facebook Livestream mentioning that he will bear all consequences. He even offered compensation for victims to get an accommodation upgrade to a 5-star Tanjung Rhu Resort in Langkawi at no additional cost after purchasing the Laguna Redang Island Resort packages.

The customers who were victims from the fraud can enjoy meals for 3 days and 2 nights, airport transfers and a one day island tour. This package upgrade has no expiration dates and is possible to transfer to another person.
