Last week, OldTown White Coffee were raided after a consumer went to social media claiming that they have been serving pork to its patrons.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has officially confirmed that the claims of this were false. Enforcement Division director Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman stated that the Department of Chemistry had conducted an analysis and lab test on the sample of meat taken from an outlet in Subang Jaya. The results obtained showed that the meat sample contained Chicken DNA.

Iskandar mentioned in a statement that “the restaurant which was investigate under the Trade Description (Definition of Halal) Order 2011 and Trade Description (Certification and Marketing of Halal) order 2011, did not commit any offences under these laws”.
The inspection of the outlet was conducted after the video went viral on social media. It showed a bowl of curry laksa and claimed that the meat in the dish was pork. The item in question was resembled as “Premium Curry Noodles”.

During the inspection of the restaurant, it’s been found that the restaurant does own a halal certificate which is approved by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) and it is still valid till 30 November 2020.

The main raw materials in the Curry Laksa is believed to be chicken meat and was labelled as “BBQ Chicken” as show in the photo above which was taken during the raid.
Iskandar urges the public consumers to be responsible with what they spread on social media as news can be unverified or even false which can impact parties negatively.
