Last Friday (15 January), a Dato’ was arrested as he was involved in an assault case involving a young couple at a hot pot restaurant.
As the courts refused to extend their remand, they have been released on bail. Initially, the police had bid to extend their remand but was rejected by the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court.
The Star had reported that the lawyer of the two, Datuk Suraj Singh quoted "The investigating officer's application to the court for (further) remand in this case has been rejected”.
And if anyone was wondering, the two men were on a two-day police remand which expired on Saturday. They are aged 42 and 39.
ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisa of the Petaling Jaya district police said that they are in the midst of completing the investigation.
"We expect to refer the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor on Monday," he said.

Two things were also revealed during this investigation.
1) The Dato’ that was charged has a prior criminal record for criminal intimidation.
2) The young man who was assaulted is also the son of another well-known Datuk!
The victim is the son of Datuk Kwan Foh Kwai who is the acting president of the Perak Chinese Assembly Hall and well-known in the construction industry.
Kwan is currently the non-executive chairman of Luxchem Corpotation Berhad. He wanted the public to know that as he did not want the internet to make unfair comments about his son.
"It is regrettable that this happened. We called the police on the night after the incident," he revealed, adding, "In order to prevent the surfacing of unfair posts about my son, I will not deny my son's identity."
