An Australian engineer, Peter Mcmahon claimed that this picture was the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, but is in fact a picture of an old wreckage back in November 2009.
Peter reported that the wreckage of MH370 was found somewhere in the water near Mauritius. No one knows if he did this for short-term fame or did he sincerely think it was the MH370 plane?
However, the Australian Transport and Safety Bureau (ATSB) however, stepped in to brush off this claim. “Spurious claims such as these must be particularly upsetting for the family and friends of those lost on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370” said a spokesman for ATSB.
Despite the level of extensive search, the body of the MH370 plane was never found. A wing flap, called a flaperon, was discovered on Reunion Island near Madagascar in 2015, and confirmed to be part of the missing plane.
